\The
concept for No Longer Bound is to provide our audience with a
historical overview of Juneteenth that will give a sense of
belonging, gratification, and understanding of the sacrifice that was
made to end slavery in the United States of America. The audiences
will further understand the contributions of arts and culture from
the African-American experience.
African dance, drumming, song, jazz, spoken word, and rap are the ingredients that make up this musical extravaganza. The cast will tell The Story of Juneteenth with cultural and historical integrity. The story takes us from Mother Africa through the ending of slavery through the celebration and victory of Juneteenth becoming a national holiday.
The Philadelphia Juneteenth Family, Inc. (PJFI) is a 501(c)3 arts and culture organization that is dedicated to promoting and educating our communities about the significance of the Juneteenth holiday and its importance to the African diaspora. Our organization prides itself on creating quality programming that will enhance cultural awareness and cross-cultural experiences for the Philadelphia community and beyond.
The Juneteenth family is built upon four pillars: educational, spiritual, cultural, and political. These pillars are the foundation of our organization and have led us to create an array of programming and projects to raise awareness of Juneteenth and its significance today and into the future.
We partnered with the African Culture Alliance of North America (ACANA) and out of the wisdom of that partnership we realized that Juneteenth is more than an event, more than a celebration, we realized it is a symbol. It is a symbol of unity, remembrance, tradition, and freedom that should be shared from an educational, spiritual, cultural, and political perspective.
